Certain superstitions and taboos are prevalent in every culture and geographical area. Numerology too has some absolute numbers that can be categorized as lucky, neutral, and unlucky.
China and Tetraphobia :
- In China, number 4 is one of the unlucky numbers. Number 4 is associated with death in China. That is why; Chinese avoid this number on any auspicious occasion.
- This phenomenon is known as Tetraphobia'. Not only in China, but four is also feared and avoided in other East Asian countries too.
- This belief was more established when China was not able to host the Olympic Games of 2004. Though they went on to host 2008 Beijing Olympics, it reconfirmed their faith on the unluckiness of 4.
- Whenever any foreigner visits China, they get baffled by the absence of number 4 in road number, room number, apartment number, shopping mall, and even in bill transactions.
- Even in the elevators, you will find floors like 4th, 13th (1+3=4), 14th, 22nd, 24th floors are missing.
- When Sony the new model after Sony Xperia Z3, it was simply named Sony Xperia Z3+, not Z4.
- Another Number that is avoided by the Chinese at any cost is 9. In Chinese mythology, nine is symbolic of anguish and misery. Even pronunciation 9 sounds like torture in Mandarin.
- Owing to two of the miserable elements associated with both the numbers, Chinese also avoids the combination of 4 and nine like 94, 49, etc.
Indian Beliefs :
- In India, Number 17 is considered to be an inauspicious number. That is because, numerological, if you add up one plus 7, then it equals to 8. And number 8 is ruled by the planet Saturn. Saturn causes an immense delay in every auspicious result. You get the result only after facing severe hardships.
- If a person is born in the dates like 26(2+6=8), 17(1+7=8) and eight they face delays in getting the job, desired results, career, marriage, and childbirth.
- Date 26 is smeared with some of the horrific incidents in India. For example, the Taj Mumbai terrorist attack happened on 26th November 2008. Tsunami in South India happened on 26th December 2004. Gujarat earthquake occurred on 26th January 2001.
- Number 2 is ruled by moon and six by Venus, which is considered to be a lethal combination.
Japanese myths :
- Stillbirth or stillborn is associated with number 43 in Japanese culture. That is why; you won't see any Room Number 43 in Japanese hospitals.
- Number 24 is also considered with incompletion or end in Japan. That is why this number is also avoided.
Ancient Roman, Christian, and Parsi matters :
- The word VIXI' in Latin is known as My life is ending' or suicide.' In Roman Numerical 17 is written as XVII, which is the jumbled form of VIXI. Italians, therefore, hate 17.
- In the Bible, Number 66 is widely considered to be the number of Satan. Many Christians would avoid triple six as their last digit phone numbers, room number, and many more.
- Americans and Europeans consider number 13 as unlucky Number. Same with the Parsis!
Meanwhile in Afghanistan :
- In Afghanistan, 39 translate into Morda gow, meaning dead cow. The pimps who run prostitution rackets also use this number. Therefore, 39 is considered to be unlucky in Afghan culture. Many unfortunate incidents that happened in the country is associated with 39.
